Xtian: God created everything.
Athiest: What about Occam's razor?
Xtian: That too.
Athiest: No. I mean Occam's Razor says "One shouldn't create unnecessary entities to explain things."
Xtian: You mean, I shouldn't make up rules that can't be proven?
Athiest: Yes
Xtian: Like Occam's Razor?
Athiest: I guess so. I never thought about it like that. I guess if someone found god, Occam's Razor would be right out the window. As a rational person, I should keep my options open...
Xtian: So where does that leave us?
Athiest: I'm not sure. If I abandon Occam's Razor, what do I have left?
Xtian: Something greater than you ... ?
Athiest: No. That can't be it. SOme fairytale that can't be tested or proven by definition is a dumb way out of this trap. Maybe we just don't know and can never know... It's inconcievable, like the fifth dimension.
Xtian: Or the ineffable name of God. If that is so, then what would be the point? Of religion, of science, of anything? If all explanations are flawed ...
Athiest: Maybe we should only believe in what we can quantify with given instruments. As instrumentation advances, then we can believe in more... Sort of a Religion of Significant Digits.
Xtian: But then who will aspire to make more precise instruments? If the next set of instruments can not solve the riddle, and all studies of the puzzle indicate that the puzzle gets more complex as more is completed. People need to know that there is an end to it all, or maybe they won't pursue an answer.
Athiest: And if there is no end, how can we even interpret the results properly? You need an indication of the path in order to determine that you are even on the path...
Xtian: So what then, shall we do?
Athiest: Get Drunk and play Nintendo.
Xtian: You may be on to something there...
