saint_monkeyGot creamed by a bicyclist while exiting the 21 bus out in front of the entrance to the Embarcadero station. (The cyclist was on the sidewalk, heading for the inlet to the subway.) I was struggling with the bus door, hopped off onto the sidewalk, and WHAM. I'm ok, I just got knocked a good 20 feet, most of which was me attempting to maintain my balance because I knew already that the fall would be worse than the impact. I managed to take most of the damage on my hands and my left hip and left elbow.
If you happen to be a cyclist, and are reading this, then let this be a lesson to you. When the bus stops, people tend to get off of it. Perhaps you knew this already, but it doesn't hurt to repeat it, at least
Since I was relatively unharmed (it was like a good solid hit in football or soccer, nothing worse than that,) I told the cyclist that he could go. He was decent enough, he hung around to see if I was OK, but once I gave him the verbal "OK TO GO," he was off like a shot.
With this bicycle collision, I believe I have been struck by just about every type of human transport except an airplane. A taxi backed into me in Korea, I ran into a bus in middle school, and in Washington State, I was once ran over by a dogsled.
Of all the options, a dogsled has to be the most adorable thing to be struck by. It's like, WHAM, and then, PUPPIES!
