i'm morbidly curious about something... to give you an idea, let me tell you a story.

once in late 1988, i was in athens georgia, working an electrical job to earn enough money to start at the university of georgia. i was bored a lot and i didn't know anyone my age. one day the radio talked about the fact that the band REM was going to be playing at some out of the way hole in the wall under a fake name, which they apparantly did at the time. i was tired but after work i decided to go find REM instead of going home to sleep. on the way to find the little hole in the wall place, i went through a poorly maintained intersection and got into an accident that totalled my car. i had to get a new car, and this ate all my money up. i went into the military as a direct result. deciding to try and go to an REM venture changed the whole course of my life drastically.

what i'm sort of morbidly fascinated by is that it was such a small decision, probably the least important thing in the whole scope of the day. now don't get me wrong, i'm not unhappy with my life, and it's true: if it wasn't REM on that day, it would have been something else on another... and i guess that's what i want to hear about. what small miniscule decision changed your life forever?
