i'm sure i've mentioned it before (later, when i have time, i'll hunt up the entry to link to...) but we often eat at a local vegetarian restaurant called "Silence Heart Nest" which is ran by the devotees of an indian guru named sri chinmoy, the walls are decorated with his art, his poems, his songs play in the background, and a video shows continuously with the sunyasi performing curious bits of fakir-ism, like lifting trucks and bench pressing 350 lbs and doing jumping jacks and the like. they whole place is devoted it seems, not to the possibilities within each of us, and the need we each have to find the answers within ourselves, but the exploits of one man. recently they were closed for a week because they all went on a suprise retreat called by chinmoy. must be nice. "i'm god, it's a nice day... everybody take the day off."
i wonder sometimes, how people can follow this type of guy, but then i often forget what silly monkeys we are. anyhow, to the point, i took some of thier sugar packets which are decorated with little "Chinmoy-isms," cute plithy little nothings designed to seduce the needy and impress them with this arhut's enlightenment-ness. for those of you wanting to start your own cult, this is a wonderful example of a simple way to spread your memes. and what memes they are! as simple and as sweet as the sugar within them, they are designed to provoke no argument, deliver a universal message, get in and get out, plant the seed, and above all, be palettable.
