bleary bitching

only five hours of sleep last night. my apartment building's walls are made from saran wrap, or drum heads, or timpanic membrane, or some such resonant material. Mystery and i drug pillows and blankets out of the bedroom, where beneath, our morning-shifting neighbor leaves the TV on at full volume while he sleeps (from 7 in the evening to 3:30 in the AM,) to the living room where his room-mate stays up late (1 or 2:30 in the AM) watching movies on their big-screen TV with six speaker surround sound in the living room below, to our second bedroom, which we have turned into an office, where we discovered that our downstairs neighbor's roommate was not actually watching the loud movie in their living room, he was instead in his bedroom having loud sex with his girlfriend.
normally the living room is a safe haven, we can sllep there without too much trouble, but not last night. if this keeps up, i won't get the sleep i need for my inverview on thursday, and i will be pissed.
Mystery keeps asking me why she continually has to live this way, and she wonders if we will ever live in a place that we like, where our neighbors aren't a problem. She wonders why you have to pay your dues wherever you go, why you are at zero whenever you show up somewhere else, and why can't we make any progress. I tell her that we are making progress, but it's a gradual thing, like plate techtonics, evolution, or erosion. From such subtle shifts come great changes. I don't think she buys it.
