Sherwood Schwartz and Gilligan's Island
Jul. 13th, 2011 12:00 pm- Tue, 16:06: RT @TheTweetOfGod: R.I.P., Sherwood Schwartz. Thou art bound for heaven. But first, care to see hell? I can offer thee a three-hour tour ...
Sherwood Schwartz was the creator of BOTH Gilligan's Island and the Brady Bunch, and is therefore single handedly responsible for 90% of all 70's cheesiness.
I found @TheTweetofGod's offer of a tour of Hell to be clever, since it plays off of both the Gilligan's Island theme song, and a literary reference. It has been posited in the past that Gilligan's Island is in some ways a take on Dante's Inferno or the writings of Sartre, with each castaway being representative of a particular deadly sin, and all of them being punished in an Island Hell:
The Professor: Pride
Thurston Howell: Greed
Ginger: Lust
Lovey Howell: Gluttony
the Skipper: Wrath
Mary Ann: Envy
Gilligan: Sloth
