May. 23rd, 2003 01:17 amwhen i last lived on the east coast, one could buy these coffee crumb cakes. They were essentially yellow cupcakes with a struesel topping. actually, it could only be called struesel in a german pastry nightmare... it was struesel if the main ingredients were lard and playdoh. they were good in a pinch, to sate the hunger of the truly desperate cinnamon freak.
why do i bring this up? well, in true philly fashion, the local commercial pastry and all around cheesy bakery "Tasty Kake" has improved upon this recipe by taking these same cupcakes, and filling them with "kreme" filling (and giving them the dubious name "Kreme Filled Krumb Kakes.") only in bush's america. (i'm thinking the KKK initials, for low_key's sake...) but i can actually picture something like this in clinton's america too.
i'm not trying to criticise... if i didn't think they'd kill me, or give me indigestion, i might even have bought them... i thought they were amusing... something so scary to begin with ... "KICKED UP A NOTCH" BAM! by the good folks at Tasty Kake. Now it's taking dangerous cusine to a whole new level.
in only a week,. Mystery goes to Rome... she'll stay for 6 weeks. i'm excited vicariously, and i wish i could go too, but i need to stay and work.
