Today, abortion rights group, NARAL announced that they will move ahead with plans to "protest" the SCOTUS nomination of John G. Roberts Jr., calling in "rapid responders" to bombard Senators with calls, emails, and letters urging that they block his nomination.
NARAL is stoopit. Three years ago, Mystery and I drove from Seattle to Philadelphia. We chose the northernmost US route, which took us through Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, etc. Long rural wastelands, full of red state goodness. Every single mile featured an anti-abortion billboard. NARAL, Your rapid responders have been sleeping for three years while the message in the heartland is "We are at war, and there is a holocaust going on." NARAL should have been using those rapid responders to keep people from putting Bush into office, because that guy ain't gonna back down on his nominees. You reject wossisname, and Bush will put up his clone, or even someone worse. Or HEY! How about putting some of that effort into keeping the Repubs from keeping their continuing majority in the House and Senate in Aught Six? Those might actually be tactics that ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING.
Nah, you'd rather throw your money down the futile protest well! Effectively making your attempts at blocking the nominee into, well, what they are, empty gestures that at most, may cost Congress the fillibuster as a political tool. Congrats!
