I thought that this article was pretty good. ( http://www.shinhanga.net/hasuiwc.htm ) It compares the watercolor designs for prints by Kawase Hasui (1883 - 1957) with the actual prints produced by his printmakers as they modified the designs in a collaborative effort:

An interesting example of how the same image can have a completely different character when rendered into another medium, and how the "team effort" of printing modified the character and mood of several of the original sketches. Sort of like a dog designed by committee.
