saint_monkeyI was showing my brother-in-law around South Philly on Saturday, and we wandered into the Italian Market Street Fair, sort of by accident. I had been before, on purpose, but I had forgotten that this weekend was the weekend for the street fair. So we just had to stop and take a look.
Two positively unbelievable things happened. Seriously, when tell you, you'll swear that I am lying. 1) We found parking in the free city lot off of Christian St. immediately. 2) About halfway through the day, I felt like something was fundamentally wrong. After a minute, I realized what it was. We'd walked through a huge mass of people, overheard them all chatting about things, stood in line for gelato behind a guy who had to be related to Ray Liotta in some way who was talking about how his cigar-store indian got "clipped" by somebody, and we waited with countless south philadelphians in a line to get into DiBruno Bros, and listened to ten or so lounge style Sinatra impersonators, and no-one said "Youse." Not even once all day.
I told you you'd think I was lying.
