Interesting metafilter entry,

Essentially, the US may have ruined a chance at stopping the London train bombings some two years ago, by accidentally revealing the name of an Al-Qaida double-agent.

The gist:

1.) ABC News has just reported that the london attacks have been planned for two years, and are linked to Al-Qaida.

2.) Plans for the bombing were on an Al-Qaida member's (Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan) laptop, arrested about a year ago...

Now here's the leap.

3.) The Daily Times of Pakistan is reporting that the Al-Qaida computer expert was a mole for the US, and was "outed" for some reason by the Bush administration, essentially ruining the chances of foiling any plots he was involved with.

The Times of India and the Daily Times often throw together these reports, based on interviews with various experts about the US. Typically these are members of think tanks holding respectable positions, but nonetheless, are serving an agenda. Sometimes the stories turn out to be specious, so this bit must be taken with a grain of salt. This could be a case of a Pakistani reporter trying to "spin" a criminal into a spy.
